If, for example, I chose to drink a 12 oz. For the same nine points I could have had two chicken fajitas, or 3 oz. And, for those of us with portion control issues there's always the opportunity to gorge on "free" vegetables. You know those diets where you're not allowed to eat anything with, say, sugar? Or carbs? This isn't one of them. When you want potato chips, you eat potato chips. You just build them into your diet plan, account for them in your point spending, and compensate for them with other healthy eating choices the rest of the day and week.
That day that I had a Manhattan and beers? It didn't set me back mentally, emotionally, or physically. Instead, I just accounted for it and moved on. No guilt, none of that "since I already failed I might as well keep on eating. By tracking everything I eat over the course of a day and a week, I learned to just say no. It's like there's an invisible boundary there. Sure, I can fit tortilla chips 12 chips, 4 points and salsa into my diet, but not the entire basket.
Now, I know what that basket will cost me—not just on the scale but in my food plan for the day or the week. Subconsciously, I can decide that I'd rather stop at a handful of chips than sacrifice say, dinner.

I'm still a proud lifetime member and I still go to meetings every week. I lost 59 pounds in 18 months with them and liked it so much I now work for them.
I really enjoy the focus on real food versus processed 'diet' food. I was able to learn how to incorporate special treats birthday cake, movie theater popcorn, cookies, ice cream, etc into a healthy diet and not feel guilty about it. The program also taught me that it's okay to say no to food if you really don't want it. It's not that I can't have certain items, I just choose not to. It gave me some control over my choices. I started online and they have a social media platform for support.
Once I got closer to my goal, I switched to meetings. The support was amazing and helped me push through plateaus. But mainly it's not a diet but a lifestyle change. I have lost a significant amount of weight more than once using the program and kept it off for more than two years each time. Unfortunately, a few years ago I went through some pretty traumatic stuff—think crazy stalker ex-boyfriend and my mom dying—and went off the program and gained the weight back.
But instead of seeing it as a failure life happens! I really like the new points plan they are using. And healthier foods are lower in points than foods with fewer beneficial nutrients are, meaning you can eat more fruits and veggies than, say, snack foods like potato chips.
For example, a corn muffin is worth 6 SmartPoints, while a cup of plain low fat Greek yogurt with berries is worth 4 SmartPoints. You can eat more of the yogurt and berries for fewer points because of their nutritional value. The current SmartPoints program is pretty flexible, more so than what WW offered in the past. The program also includes hundreds of ZeroPoint foods for more versatility, including most fruits and vegetables, eggs, skinless chicken, fish, beans, tofu, and nonfat plain yogurt, among others.
Each plan offers a different amount of ZeroPoint foods. ZeroPoint foods are meant to make WW more flexible and versatile. But they also give you an incentive to choose these healthy, weight loss-friendly options more often. This one gives you a minimum of 30 daily SmartPoints and about ZeroPoint foods to choose from mostly fruits and nonstarchy veggies.
This plan has a moderate SmartPoints budget. The ZeroPoint foods include fruits, vegetables, most lean proteins, most seafood, nonfat dairy, beans, lentils, eggs, tofu, whole grains, potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, and oatmeal.
But it can be easier to overeat on this plan. Signing up for WW gives you a ton of resources to help you make healthy choices. One reason WW stands out from other weight loss programs is that no foods or food groups are off-limits. With SmartPoints you can ultimately eat whatever you want, as long as you stay within your limit. Weight loss success is about more than the number on the scales.
Research proves that staying motivated is key to weight loss success, and there may be times that you need to work at it.
